Walter Jaeger Bio

Walter Jaeger is a hands-on technologist, entrepreneur, and advanced manufacturing consultant with more than 25 years of experience in startups, product development, additive manufacturing, materials, electronics, casting, and industrial production. He is the co-owner of Jaeger Technology Group LLC, a Decatur, Alabama–based manufacturing and engineering company serving clients in aerospace, automotive, medical, legal, academic, foundry, and industrial sectors.

Walter’s work centers on practical problem solving: helping customers move from early concepts to functional prototypes, manufacturable designs, production tooling, and short-run production. His background spans 3D printing, large-format additive manufacturing, medical-device development support, casting patternmaking, electronics integration, product-market strategy, and advanced materials. He is especially experienced in bridging traditional manufacturing knowledge with modern digital fabrication methods.

Through Jaeger Technology Group, Walter supports clients with advanced 3D printing, prototyping, jigs and fixtures, robotic tooling support, short-run production, materials and process development, equipment service, and industrial manufacturing consulting. The company also specializes in patternmaking for metal casting, blending traditional foundry practice with modern CAD and additive manufacturing. JaegerTech’s casting patterns are typically 3D printed, finished, and epoxy-reinforced for durability, precision, and repeatable use in sand casting and related processes. The company also supports disposable patterns and additive workflows for investment casting where appropriate.

Walter has supported medical and biomedical applications of 3D printing, including medical-device prototypes, anatomical models, implant development support, surgical and research models, and technical consulting for medical and academic programs. He has also worked with law practices in the medical malpractice and automobile accident arenas, using 3D printing and visualization tools to support case review and technical explanation of injuries, anatomy, and accident-related matters.

His international medical additive manufacturing experience includes collaboration with Sanjay Pathak on early DMLS implant development associated with Medanta Hospital, supporting a patient-specific implant case involving severe bone degeneration following infection. That work included technical guidance around medical imaging workflows, design tools, and additive manufacturing methods at a time when patient-specific metal implants were still emerging as a practical clinical technology.

Walter has also supported the launch of advanced additive manufacturing programs in the medical-device sector, including early operational and technical leadership for a company developing 3D-printed implant technology. His work in this area has included process development, manufacturing strategy, technical leadership, and helping teams navigate the transition from early technical feasibility to practical production planning.

Earlier in his career, Walter served as Director of Research and Development at 4D Vision, where he was involved in advanced materials and energy-related additive manufacturing work. During that period, he helped produce what is believed to be one of the first 3D-printed perovskite solar cell demonstrations in the American Southeast, combining additive manufacturing, materials development, and emerging photovoltaic technology.

Walter has also spoken at NYU, Auburn University, and numerous trade and industry events, particularly on lightweighting, generative design, additive manufacturing strategy, and the practical use of 3D printing in real production environments. His speaking and consulting work reflects a consistent theme: additive manufacturing is most valuable when it is treated not as a novelty, but as a serious manufacturing tool with design rules, material limits, process controls, and business realities.

With a background that spans software, materials science, electronics, casting, medical devices, and manufacturing operations, Walter brings a rare combination of technical depth and practical shop-floor experience. He is comfortable working with engineers, founders, researchers, machinists, doctors, attorneys, executives, and production teams. His strength is not merely knowing how to print a part, but understanding why the part matters, how it will be used, what can go wrong, and how to move the project toward a workable manufacturing outcome.

Based in Decatur, Alabama, Walter and Jaeger Technology Group serve the Southeast and beyond, helping companies, universities, inventors, legal teams, researchers, and manufacturers turn complex technical needs into practical, physical solutions.

“I connected with Walt in 2016 when I had just started learning about 3d printing and it’s applications. I have done hundreds of projects in medical.  I can’t remember any major project where Walt was not holding my hand, be it the famous Medanta Hospital Vertebrae replacement case where he introduced me to right tools like Mimics or when I was printing a transparent facade model for a Dubai company when he told me about Prodways on which I ultimately printed the project, he has been by my side.

— Sanjay Pathak, Founder Director, Osteoskill India Private Limited

“Walter has been a great resource for us. He is prompt, professional, & knowledgeable. He was able to effectively troubleshoot issues with our 3D printer, recommend fixes, and educate our team to get us back up and running. We would not hesitate to use Walter again and highly recommend him as an expert in his field.”

—Bryan Fox, Tangent Design Group, Inc.

“Walter is a passionate, professional engineer. He not only has the drive but the knowledge of design, fabrication, and complex problem solving. He is a great solution provider and doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty. He represents his company with the highest level of customer service, it was a plus the working with Walt on my project. I would recommend Walt for any design, fabrication, engineering, and 3D printing projects.”
